about the studio

Mobile and web apps, shipped across industries

Push Pop Digital is a small product studio. We plan, build and ship mobile apps, web apps, and the data and integrations underneath them, for consumer, B2B, manufacturing and healthcare clients.

The name comes from how software gets built. You push a solid foundation of data and infrastructure first, pop integrations and business logic on top, and finish with the digital layer people actually touch. Our logo is that stack.

We verify before we assert, ship on the date, and write things down so nobody has to ask where anything lives.

The studio is led by Sarah Ritter, who has delivered apps for national sports teams, enterprise software, contractors, clinical researchers and health insurers. Since 2024 she's taken on side work and small builds under the Push Pop name.

Bike path adventure map

A bike-around-town iOS app for a small mountain town: the paved bike path, the places worth riding to along it, and curated rides built for families first. Made by a parent who rides that path every day with a kid on board.

  • Designed for three kinds of riders: families who want a short ride with a playground or ice cream stop at the end, visitors who want to demo a bike from a local shop and head for the trails, and people riding the path between taprooms
  • 28 real local destinations (ice cream, playgrounds, breweries, bike shops, repair stands), toggled by category on the map
  • 9 curated rides, from an after-school playground classic to a five-stop taproom ride, each drawn on the map with numbered stops
  • Routes are hand-verified by a local instead of computed. A shortest-path engine will happily send a parent with two kids onto a highway shoulder to save 100 metres.
  • A data validator runs in CI and catches swapped latitude and longitude before they reach a phone
  • Built in about 30 working hours for the Women in AI September 2026 challenge. Submitted to the App Store on 26 September, with an update resubmitted on 1 October.
  • Featured in the town's downtown promotion video

branch outdoors

Find your people outside. A web app for groups, meetups and events that get people outdoors. Browse by activity, find a hike, climb, ride or paddle nearby, join the group that runs it, and show up to try something new.

  • 11 activity categories, from hiking and cycling to paddling, climbing, stewardship and skills, plus search across events, places and groups
  • Real events from real local organizers on day one: climbing coalitions, mountain bike clubs, state park friends groups, hiking clubs and women's and BIPOC climbing meetups
  • Every event shows when, where and which group runs it, so someone who shows up once can find that community again
  • 67 local groups and clubs listed and 20 events coming up in the next 30 days, as of early October
  • Organizers can post their own events and groups
  • No ads, no feed, no tracking. Lists sort by name or date, the same for everyone, with no algorithm deciding what you see.
  • Launched in Western North Carolina and built to grow region by region. Success is measured by people who go from viewing an event to showing up in person.
  • Meets WCAG contrast and uses a typeface chosen for legibility on small screens

Turnip Learning

The safe video world for kids: like YouTube, but built for learning, not engagement. Kids explore what they're obsessed with, from whales to kitchen science, through short, great videos followed by a chance to practice.

what the current build does

  • A parent signs in with Sign in with Apple, then the child picks their own profile from a friendly picker
  • Browse by shows and episodes, like an ocean set of Coral Reef Adventures, Whale Tales and Crabby's World, with NEW and FULL EPISODE badges
  • A kid-sized video player with big, simple controls and a clear way home. When a video ends, it suggests related videos from the same topic, never an open-ended feed.
  • Game and topic cards keep the original idea alive: watch a clip, then play something that checks understanding
  • A documented design system (color, type scale, badges, buttons, avatars, cards, player controls and iPad landscape layouts) so every new screen stays consistent

how it evolved

Eight years ago, Turnip started with an idea and a simple wireframe: a dashboard where a teacher could pick an activity template (sequence, sorting, matching, fill in the blank, photo label) and fill it with their own content.

  4. October 2026 · Redesign and iPhone design
    • Iterative UX redesign leveraging several AI tools
    • App now designed to deploy on the latest iOS version for iPhone and iPad
  5. October 2026 · Architecture change
    • v1 moves video to a content server (Mux)
    • A small, swappable data layer (Supabase)
    • Smaller app size, new videos ship without an App Store update, and videos stream on slower Wi-Fi
  6. NextUpload the full video library to Mux, connect Backpack downloads and parent accounts, and run a family pilot

Today it's been updated to a native mobile app for iPad and iPhone.

Executive command center

A web app for a busy executive whose work was scattered across email, calendar, meeting notes and a dozen projects. It pulls all of it into one daily view: the three things that matter today, the action queue, upcoming meetings, milestones and decisions waiting on them.

  • App integrations with Microsoft Graph and n8n
  • Planning views from a daily schedule up to a six-month roadmap that lines up every project's milestones on one timeline
  • A nightly check flags tasks that are past due and haven't moved in three days, so slipping work shows up before it becomes a problem
  • Went from schema to live email and calendar data in 9 days, shipping to production from GitHub on every push

Healthcare Data Applications

Provider data platforms for a national dental insurer: the feeds that load its network, the portal its providers use, and the data quality work that decides which numbers the team trusts.

See the projects

Provider data exchange

Owned the feed that loads a full dental provider network from the insurer's systems into a live SaaS platform, across three source systems while a legacy one was being retired.

  • SFTP to GCS to BigQuery, compared against a CDC mirror of production, then applied in one transaction
  • Designed in a freshness gate and fail-closed reconciliation, so nothing touches production until the comparison proves it safe
  • Caught three defects that would each have silently corrupted the cutover

Provider portal production release

Took the insurer's provider portal to its launch date as both PM and hands-on engineer.

  • Triaged 15 client QA issues and shipped 7 fixes as reviewed PRs in one day
  • Self-review caught a bug that would have hidden every one of a provider's claims
  • Carried a two-company SSO effort (Entra ID, SAML, Auth0) through to UAT sign-off

Provider data audit

Mapped one client's providers across four production databases and settled which numbers the team would trust.

  • Reconciled about 97,700 network providers against 27,000 portal-credentialed ones
  • Quantified the top two data defects, including one rejecting about 45% of a feed's business records
  • Replaced ad hoc extracts with one reusable BigQuery view

Manufacturing Automation and Data Analytics

Connected machines on an aerospace manufacturing floor to dashboards the plant could act on.

  • Used Inductive Automation's Ignition to pull live PLC data off production machines
  • Turned that data into analytics dashboards showing machine uptime and downtime
  • Surfaced maintenance signals so the team could plan maintenance instead of reacting to breakdowns

Maintenance Operations Mobile App

A B2B mobile app at DMG for running maintenance on commercial and industrial properties such as shopping centers and large retail stores.

  • Scheduling for recurring work, including snow plowing, mowing and trimming
  • Work orders and parts ordering for crews in the field
  • Invoicing, billing and accounts receivable in the same system, so finished work turned into payment without re-entry

Data Analytics Dashboards

Dashboards that turn data lakes and integrations into metrics people actually use.

  • Built dashboards in Mixpanel, SAP BusinessObjects, Tableau and Microsoft tools
  • Wrote the queries against data lakes behind them
  • Tracked integration health and the business metrics teams make decisions from
  • Example: a coverage dashboard for branch outdoors that shows clubs, events and businesses by state, region and activity, sorted weakest first so the team can see where the board is thin

Mixpanel · BusinessObjects · Tableau · Microsoft · SQL

Coverage dashboard summary: 1,121 clubs, 2,486 upcoming events, 887 businesses, and states that still need coverage Coverage by state table, sorted weakest first, with red flags for states under 10 clubs or no upcoming events Clubs, events and businesses by activity category and by app region
